Poems for Emil's memorial symposium

Opening verse:

How we miss the welcome footsteps
Of the one we loved so dear.
oft we listen for his coming
Fully sure that he is near.
Thou are gone but not forgotten
Fresh our love will ever be
For as long as there is memory
We will always think of thee.

Closing verse 1:

Where do they go to?

Where do they go to, the people who leave?
Are they around us, in the cool evening breeze?
Do they still hear us, and watch us each day?
I'd like you to think of them with us that way.
Where do they go to, when no longer here?
I think that they stay with us, calming our fear
Loving us always, holding our hands
Walking beside us, on grass or on sand.
Where do they go to, well it's my belief
They watch us and help us to cope with our grief
They comfort and stay with us,
through each of our days Guiding us always through life's mortal maze.

Closing verse 2:

May you see God's light on the path ahead when the road you walk is dark.
May you always hear, even in your hour of sorrow, the gentle singing of the lark.
When times are hard may hardness never turn your hardness to stone.
May you always remember when the shadows fall - You do not walk alone.
